I’m the owner, Rebekah LeFay, pictured above in the skirt which my mom thought was too short for a magazine feature on my business, here to tell you a little bit about what I do here. RIVETER traces its beginnings back to my broken, inherited jewelry. Nothing “valuable” by market standards, but rich with story, meaning, memories, symbolism, and a connection to family who had worn it before. It was a desire to honor those “deeper meanings” that led me to learn to repair - then to create jewelry. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn - so I attended metalsmithing courses at Watkins College of Art & Design, and then went on to comprehensive fine jewelers’ education at the renowned New Approach School for Jewelers.

While my professional education and training has been invaluable, it is still the raw emotion, meaning, symbolism, and personal connection which I love the most about jewelry adornment. Throughout every diverse era of human existence, jewelry has been used to express our place within our community, our devotion to another, a connection to family, a personal expression of what we want others to understand about us, and to serve as tokens of what we want to remind ourselves of.

Even more than fine gemstones and metals, I think that’s the real value of jewelry. So I keep that in mind with the designs I create, the other designers we carry, and the human connection I hope you feel when you walk through the door here at RIVETER.
